November 8 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) is set to start nacelle production in Turkey by the end of November, Anadolu Agency reported Wednesday citing Siemens Gamesa Turkey CEO Ebru Cicekliyurt.

Construction of Turkey’s first wind turbine factory is completed and all the equipment arrived at the site in Izmir, Cicekliyurt was quoted as saying in her speech at the Turkish Wind Energy Congress in Ankara.

The new factory will produce 100 nacelles annually and create jobs for 500 people.

Turkish news outlet Daily Sabah reported separately that the factory was built with an investment of more than USD 100 million (EUR 90.6m).

The new factory is tied to 1 GW of capacity that a consortium of Siemens Gamesa, Turkish infrastructure company Kalyon Enerji and investor Turkerler Holding secured in the first wind power Renewable Energy Resource Areas (YEKA) tender in 2017.

The YEKA tender specified that the winning company had to meet a 65% local content requirement and carry out research and development (R&D) activities in Turkey.

Siemens Gamesa said last year it has signed agreements to construct the required facilities and committed to building at least 700 MW by 2022.
