Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:IBE) has closed an agreement to supply turbines for the 339.7-MW Dohoku four-project wind farm cluster in Japan.
The order was placed by Japanese renewables company Eurus Energy, which is developing the Dohoku wind farms on the island of Hokkaido.
High wind speeds in Japan require specifically-designed typhoon-resistant turbines, Siemens Gamesa said. The wind turbine manufacturer is set to supply 79 units of typhoon-class machines and provide technical field assistance for construction and commissioning of all four projects.
The full commissioning of the Dohoku cluster is expected in the second half of 2023.
“We’re the first company in the industry that has developed 4.3 MW typhoon type certified onshore turbines, which also achieved site-specific Wind Farm Certificate for several Japanese projects too,” commented Russell Cato, managing director of Siemens Gamesa in Japan.
Siemens Gamesa has been present in Japan for over 20 years. The company has installed 520 MW of turbines in the country and has 353 MW under operation and maintenance.
