November 28 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) has signed a deal with EDF Renewables to supply turbines for the 448-MW Neart Na Gaoithe offshore wind project in Scottish waters.

The wind turbine manufacturer will supply 54 units of its SG 8.0-167 DD machines and will service them under 15-year contract. Construction and turbine installation works are scheduled to commence in 2022, the company said on Wednesday.

The renewables arm of France’s EDF SA (EPA:EDF) acquired the GBP-1.8-billion (USD 2.3bn/EUR 2.1bn) Neart Na Gaoithe project in May 2018 from developer Mainstream Renewable Power.

Once operational, the wind park is expected to generate enough clean electricity to meet the annual demand of up to 375,000 homes. Neart Na Gaoithe has a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) in place at a rate of EUR 140 (USD 154) per MWh.
