Siemens Gamesa signs 10 offshore wind supplier pacts in Taiwan

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said today it has signed 10 pacts in Taiwan with various suppliers, covering offshore wind turbine component solutions related to machining, control systems and coolers, among other.

More specifically, the company has signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) with six global Tier 1 suppliers and four local suppliers. The names of SGRE’s partners and the exact solutions these MoUs cover are detailed in the table below.

The purpose of the non-binding agreements is to develop an offshore wind supply chain in Taiwan, which awarded 5.5 GW of grid capacity in June. Each of the MoUs envisages either the establishment of new facilities in Taiwan or the use of existing ones, the SGRE announcement notes.

Siemens Gamesa is the company that installed Taiwan’s first offshore wind power plant -- the 8-MW Formosa 1, Phase 1 -- in 2016, and is involved as a turbine supplier in the 120-MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind project. Moreover, it was chosen as the preferred supplier of turbines for the 640-MW Yunlin offshore wind project.
