November 6 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said today it has appointed Christoph Wollny as the wind turbine maker’s new chief operating officer (COO).

The company announced the creation of the COO position in mid-October, when it revamped its leadership ranks by appointing current chief financial officer (CFO) Miguel Angel Lopez as non-executive chairman of the board with effect from December 1. The CFO position was, in turn, taken by David Mesonero.

Siemens Gamesa said that it has created the COO position with the goal of increasing the focus on cost optimisation.

Wollny joins Siemens Gamesa from his current position as chief procurement officer at the Power & Gas division of German engineering major Siemens AG (ETR:SIE).
