Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) has secured an order to supply 78 MW of turbines for a nearshore wind farm project in Vietnam.
The turbine maker said this would be its fifth involvement in a nearshore wind development in Vietnam and its largest order to date for this type of projects in the country.
The previous record was held by the 75-MW order for the Tan Thuan nearshore project.
The 78-MW Hiep Thanh wind farm will consist of 18 units of SG 5.0-145 turbines, to be installed 1-3 kilometres (0.62-1.86 miles) from the coast of Tra Vinh Province.
Siemens Gamesa has formed a consortium with PowerChina Huadong Engineering Co Ltd to offer engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to the customer.
The Hiep Thanh project is developed by EcoTech Tra Vinh Renewables JSC, and its investors, Janakuasa Pte Ltd, Ecotech Vietnam, ST International and Climate Investor One, a facility managed by Climate Fund Managers (CFM).
The wind farm is expected to come online in the third quarter of 2021. Siemens Gamesa will provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services under a ten-year contract.
