Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Energy United Power Technology Co Ltd to license its 11-MW Direct Drive (DD) offshore turbine technology to the Chinese company.
Under the MoU, the turbine maker is to also support United Power to deploy the licensed technology in territorial waters off China’s mainland.
Thanks to its licensing model, Siemens Gamesa has gained a “solid footprint” in China’s offshore wind market, the company said, adding that its offshore technologies supported over 6 GW of wind farms in the country.
The Chinese market grid-connected 10.42 GW of offshore wind farms by April 2021, added Siemens Gamesa, citing the National Energy Administration of China.
The SG 11.0-200 DD is Siemens Gamesa’s most recent turbine model to enter serial production. The manufacturer has so far received over 3 GW worth of orders for this product to be used in projects in Europe.
