Weekly renewables M&A round-up (Aug 8-12)
Aug 12, 2022 17:43 CESTDecember 28 (Renewables Now) - Wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) will provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services for 1,928 MW of wind farms in Spain and Portugal on behalf of Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE).
In their joint statement issued today, the companies said that the O&M agreements apply to a total of 1,963 turbines installed at 69 wind farms owned by Iberdrola. The fleet includes machines from the 660-kW G4X, 850-kW G5X and 2.0-MW G8/9X platforms and some newer 2.X and 3.X models.
Some of the contracts are new and some renewals, the statement reads. Servicing operations will last between three and five years. During this time, Siemens Gamesa will need around 160 technicians to do the job.
Under the agreement with Iberdrola, the turbine maker will also make design modifications and improvement to the fleet to modernise it and ensure a higher wind energy output, the companies added.
