September 13 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said that it has booked a firm order to supply turbines for the 924-MW Sunrise Wind project set to be installed off the coast of Montauk Point in New York.
Sunrise Wind is the work of the 50/50 joint venture (JV) between New England utility Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED), and is one of three offshore wind power projects that the duo is developing off the US east coast. Siemens Gamesa was also tapped to supply its turbines for the other two -- the South Fork project off Long Island and the Revolution Wind of Rhode Island.
For the Sunrise Wind, the turbine maker will supply, deliver and install 84 units of the SG 11.0-200 DD machines.
The wind farm could be fully operational by 2025, depending on the permitting process, Siemens Gamesa said.
