Danish power company Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) has confirmed the order with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) for the supply of wind turbines for the 900-MW Greater Changhua offshore project in Taiwanese waters.
The firm order is for the Asia-Pacific variant of the SG 8.0-167 DD machines, Siemens Gamesa said Monday. This type of turbines is tailored to comply with the local codes and standards regarding typhoons, seismic activities, 60 Hz operation and activities in high and low ambient temperatures, the company explained.
The contract includes a delivery to the Changhua 1 & 2a sites and a service agreement.
Siemens Gamesa will set up a nacelle assembly facility at the Port of Taichung in Taiwan and get it up and running in 2021. Wind turbine towers will be supplied through a Taiwan-based partnership between CS Wind Corp (KRX:112610) and Chin Fong Machine Industrial Co.
