September 30 (Renewables Now) - Wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) said that it has extended its original contract for servicing the 714-MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm in the UK by ten years.

Instead of five, Siemens Gamesa will stay with the wind farm for 15 years after being awarded the extension of a full-scope contract by East Anglia One promoters ScottishPower Renewables and Bilbao Offshore Holdings Limited.

Under the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will perform maintenance and offshore logistics tasks and supply jack-up vessels. The port of Lowestoft will remain as the base for services and maintenance operations, the turbine maker said.

Located off the coast of Suffolk, the East Anglia One wind farm features 102 units of the SWT-7.0-154 Siemens Gamesa turbines. Commissioning took place in the summer of 2020.

ScottishPower Renewables is part of Spanish power utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE), while Bilbao Offshore Holdings Limited answers to Australia’s Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG).
