Weekly renewables M&A round-up (May 23-27)
May 27, 2022 17:26 CESTFebruary 22 (Renewables Now) - Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) on Monday said that it has secured a firm order to supply turbines for the 448-MW Courseulles-sur-Mer offshore wind power project set in French waters.
The order was confirmed by a multinational consortium formed by France’s EDF Renewables, Canada-based oil-and-gas group Enbridge Inc (TSE:ENB) and German wind and solar player Wpd AG, the same trio that previously ordered SGRE offshore wind turbines for the 497-MW Fecamp project they plan in France.
The latest offshore order includes the supply of 64 units of the SWT-7.0-154 Direct Drive turbines and a 15-year services and maintenance agreement, Siemens Gamesa said.
The project site is located 10 kilometres (6.21 miles) off the coast of Bessin, Normandy. Installation and commissioning of the Courseulles-sur-Mer turbines is scheduled for 2024.
Siemens Gamesa will manufacture the nacelles and blades for the project at its new plant in the Port of Le Havre that it is currently building. The turbine maker expects to start production there in the first half of 2022.
The contract with the EDF Renewables-Enbridge-Wpd consortium represents Siemens Gamesa’s third firm order in the French offshore wind sector. Besides Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fecamp, the company will also equip the 496-MW Saint Brieuc project. It has also been named the preferred supplier for the Dieppe le Treport and the Yeu Noirmoutier offshore wind projects, both of which will have 496 MW of installed capacity.
