Siemens Gamesa bags 26-MW wind turbine deal in Greece

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:IBE) said on Monday it has received an order to supply turbines for a 26-MW wind project in Central Greece, also known as Sterea Ellada.

The deal was placed by Ascent Power and will see the manufacturer deliver five units of its SG 5.2-145 machines, which will be the most powerful Siemens Gamesa wind turbines in Greece.

The hardware will be installed at the Vouno wind farm and will become operational at the end of next year. Siemens Gamesa will handle the power plant’s operations and maintenance (O&M) under a 22-year contract.

Once up and running, the wind farm will be capable of generating enough electricity to cover the consumption of over 22,000 homes per year, while offsetting close to 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

At present, Siemens Gamesa has 614 MW of wind turbine capacity contracted through O&M contracts in Greece.
