Nov 13, 2012 - German engineering group Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) today said it had finalised the wind turbine supply contract with US wind and transmission company Pattern Energy for the latter's 265-MW Ocotillo wind project in California.
The deal includes delivery, technical field assistance and commissioning of 112 Siemens machines of the SWT-2.3-108 type, as well as a two-year service and maintenance agreement. The majority of the turbines for the development are produced in the US, the statement said.
Pattern Energy has previously said it would use Siemens turbines for the Ocotillo wind farm, which is currently under construction. Most of the power plant is to start commercial operations this year and part of it is to be completed in the first half of 2013.
In addition, Siemens said it would export nacelles and hubs from its Kansas facility and blades from its Iowa plant for Pattern Energy's 115-MW El Arrayan wind farm in Chile. Construction is to start next year, with commissioning due for winter 2013/14.
The German group announced the order for the project in May. El Arrayan is its first wind project in South America outside of Brazil. Under the contract, Siemens will deliver, install and commission 50 pieces of SWT-2.3-101 turbines. There is also a five-year service and maintenance agreement in place.
