Chinese utility Huaneng Renewables Corp Ltd (HKG:0958) has hired UK-based renewables consultancy SgurrEnergy Ltd to assess the general site conditions of offshore wind projects in the Asian country.
SgurrEnergy will conduct this technical offshore wind energy research in partnership with Beijing-based Tsinghua University, it said in a press release on Friday. The pair will explore wake model parameters with the goal of improving wake model performance during the projects’ pre-construction assessment phase. They will also examine site conditions and their impact on the performance of wind turbines.
The study will help developers pick more suitable sites for their offshore wind projects and thus improve the plants' performance, the company said.
Huaneng Renewables appointed the same UK company for its offshore wind research programme in December 2014.
