SER voices fears France may not achieve 2020 green energy targets
Jul 28, 2011 - French renewable energy association SER has recently voiced fears that France will not be able to achieve its green energy targets by 2020 if the current investment level is maintained.
The country targets a share of 23% for renewable energies in the overall energy consumption by 2020.
At present, SER demands from the government to double the fund used for the financing of biomass projects. At present, the fund has at its disposal some EUR 250 million (USD 358m).
In addition, the association believes that the tenders for biomass projects have been inefficient as the biomass sector has an installed capacity of only 102 MW, versus an envisaged capacity of 569 MW.
SER is currently preparing a special publication for the French green energy sector. The book will be presented before the presidential elections in the country next year.
