Senvion wins preferred-supplier status for 300 MW Aussie wind

German wind turbine maker Senvion SA (ETR:SEN) has been appointed preferred turbine, EPC and maintenance supplier for 300 MW of wind projects in Australia.

The company is to deliver its new 3.6M140 turbine for the 25-turbine Glen Innes wind project in the state of New South Wales, and the 59-turbine Lincoln Gap wind scheme in South Australia. This is the first order for that wind turbine in Australia.

Singapore-based independent power management firm Nexif Energy chose Senvion as preferred supplier of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and maintenance contracts. Su Lin Ong, head of Nexif Energy Australia, said the agreement is an important milestone in the company’s work towards financial close and the start of construction for the two wind projects, targeted for the first quarter of 2017.

Nearly 440 MW of Senvion turbines have been installed in Australia so far.

The 3.6M140 model was introduced at WindEnergy Hamburg in September. Its lifetime is 25 years and, according to Senvion Australia head Chris Judd, it is perfectly suited to the conditions at the Glen Innes and Lincoln Gap wind farms, because it is designed to maximise the yield from medium-wind sites.
