German wind turbine maker Senvion SA (ETR:SEN) has signed a conditional contract to supply the turbines for the 203-MW Trianel Borkum II offshore wind farm in Germany, it said Tuesday.
The wind farm, to be built 45 km (28 miles) north of the island Borkum in the German North Sea, will be equipped with 32 Senvion 6.2M152 turbines with a power upgrade. The conditional deal with Trianel Windkraftwerk Borkum II GmbH & Co KG was inked at the Hamburg WindEnergy trade fair and also includes servicing the wind farm.
Final investment decision for Trianel Borkum II is expected to be taken in the first half of 2017, with construction to potentially begin in early 2018. Completion is planned for the autumn of 2019.
German municipal utilities network Trianel GmbH inaugurated the 200-MW first phase of the Borkum project -- which consists of 40 pieces of Areva wind turbines -- in September 2015.
According to the announcement, until the investment decision for the second phase has been taken, further local partners shall be recruited.
