Senvion to use Palfinger blade access solution off Belgium

German wind turbine maker Senvion SA (ETR:SEN) has made an order for Palfinger Marine’s new blade access solution for use at the Thornton Bank I, II and III offshore wind farms in Belgium.

The subsidiary of Austrian company Palfinger AG (VIE:PAL) announced this first contract for the Palfinger Blade Access (PBA) solution on Wednesday and presented details of the product. Developed together with PP Techniq, it combines the nacelle crane PK 40002 M with a workman basket with blade-guided design.

Palfinger Marine says that the PBA is much safer than using rope climbers for rotor blade maintenance.

“By adapting the Palfinger Marine crane specifically for our turbines and using it for servicing, we can safely transport both colleagues and their work instruments quicker than before”, said Dirk Reinhold, Head of Maintenance at Senvion.
