Senvion SA (ETR:SEN) on Monday confirmed its participation as turbine supplier and service provider in the 203-MW Trianel Borkum II offshore wind project.
Senvion entered into a conditional contract with the Trianel project-consortium in September 2016. Under its terms, the German company will supply 32 units of its 6.2M152 turbines with a power upgrade. The contract is now effective, the firm said.
The group developing the EUR-800-million (USD 876m) project announced it had taken the final investment decision (FID) to build the plant a month ago. German municipal utilities network Trianel GmbH holds a 37.99% stake in the project, while utility EWE AG owns 37.5%. The remaining 24.51% interest is held by Zurich-based municipal utility Elektrizitaetswerk der Stadt Zuerich (EWZ) and its investment partner Fontavis.
The scheme envisages erecting the Senvion machines 45 kilometres (28 miles) north of the island Borkum in the German portion of the North Sea, in a water depth of 25 metres to 35 metres. The installation of the turbine components is planned for the spring of 2019.
Trianel inaugurated the 200-MW first phase of the Borkum project -- which consists of 40 pieces of Areva wind turbines -- at the very start of September 2015.
