Aug 8 (Renewables Now) - ScottishPower Renewables, part of Spanish utility Iberdrola (BME:IBE), has awarded contracts for offshore wind farms in the UK, Germany and the US to England-based firms Seajacks and Gardline.
More specifically, offshore installation contractor Seajacks has won an order to support the construction of an offshore substation at the 350-MW Wikinger wind farm in German waters. The English firm has provided its Seajacks Kraken vessel for the building works, which will run across the summer.
Meanwhile, ScottishPower has selected survey contractor Gardline to conduct several pre-construction surveys for offshore wind farms under an GBP-6-million-plus deal (USD 7.8m/EUR 6.6m). The surveys will be for the 714-MW East Anglia One, East Anglia TWO and East Anglia ONE North projects, each with capacities of up to 800 MW. Work, which is already underway, will be carried out with vessels from Gardline’s fleet and is expected to be completed by September.
The offshore installation contractor will also conduct a geophysical survey in Massachusetts for the Vineyard Wind project. ScottishPower's sister company in the US, Avangrid Renewables, has a 50% stake in that project.
