Scottish Power Ltd on Monday unveiled an electric vehicle (EV) package as it said one in five adults will be thinking about buying an EV in the next three years.
The company launched what it described as the UK's first end-to-end package electric vehicle ownership that is 100% green.
The move comes after ScottishPower, part of Spanish electric utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE), last month agreed to sell its traditional generation assets to Drax Group Plc (LON:DRX), which would make it the first large UK energy company to generate 100% green electricity.
For the EV offering, ScottishPower has agreed a partnership with car retailer Arnold Clark. As part of the package, customers will be able to purchase or lease an EV, choosing the brand they prefer, book a home charging point installation and sign up to a 100% renewable electricity tariff. Customers will also be able to use the ScottishPower App for smart charging.
ScottishPower also said that a YouGov poll, commissioned by the company, shows that one in five adults will be considering the purchase or lease of an EV by October 2021. A third of those surveyed would be more likely to consider purchasing an EV if the power would come from 100% renewable sources.
"The signals couldn’t be clearer – people are telling us they want electric vehicles faster than expected, and that means the decarbonisation of our transport system, and improved air quality, can be delivered faster too," said ScottishPower chief executive Keith Anderson.
According to the announcement, consumers can chose to get their gas and electricity supply from ScottishPower under the tariff component of the EV package.
