ScottishPower Renewables and the Green Investment Group (GIG) on Monday announced that the 714-MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm in UK waters has been fully commissioned.
With some 20% of the turbine installation and about half of the turbine connection work having been completed during the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the full commissioning of the wind park is considered "an incredible achievement," the announcement says.
The wind park consists of 102 turbines provided by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) and installed off the Suffolk coast. Together they will generate enough power to supply over 630,000 households annually.
The overall investment in the project is estimated at around GBP 2.5 billion (USD 3.2bn/EUR 2.7bn).
As part of its first apprenticeship programme, ScottishPower will base two apprentices at East Anglia One's operations and maintenance (O&M) base at Hamilton Dock, Lowestoft. The move comes after a target of 3,000 new apprentices by 2030 was announced in March for the offshore wind industry.
ScottishPower Renewables is part of Spanish power utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE), while GIG is owned by Australia’s Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG).
