SC Johnson commissions nearly 1 MW of wind capacity in Wisconsin
Dec 19, 2012 - SC Johnson, a US family-owned household products maker, on Tuesday commissioned two wind turbines with a combined capacity of about 910 kW at its Waxdale factory in Wisconsin.
The turbines at the facility, located in Mount Pleasant, have an annual output of about 8 million kWh, enough to supply 700 households. Together with two cogeneration systems using waste methane gas and natural gas to produce 85% of the factory's energy consumption, the new turbines will help the facility generate an average of 100% of the power it needs onsite.
The installation of the wind turbines marks the latest step in the company's strategy of producing from renewable sources 44% of the power it uses globally by 2016.
