Oct 8, 2012 - Chinese construction machinery maker Sany Heavy Industry Co (SHA:600031), part of the Sany Group, said late last week it was not involved in the suit filed by Ralls Corp against US president Barack Obama.
Sany Heavy said that Ralls, which initiated the legal action in responce to a wind project ban, was related to the company but not its subsidiary, and rejected involvement in the case. The statement came to rebuff certain media reports saying that Ralls was a unit of Sany Heavy.
Ralls is registered in Delaware and is owned by two executives of Sany Group.
On September 28, Obama signed an order prohibiting Ralls Corp from owning four wind farm projects in the state of Oregon because of national security concerns. Ralls was directed to dispose of its interest in the projects that are located close to a US naval facility. The order followed a recommendation by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) that the president block the transaction.
On October 1 Ralls filed an amended complaint, adding Obama to a suit against CFIUS. The firm initially targeted the committee for ordering a suspension of construction at the wind farms.
