January 11 (Renewables Now) - A unit of Dallas-based diversified group Sammons Enterprises has acquired a 162.9-MW wind project in Texas from Apex Clean Energy, the buyer said on Tuesday.

Sammons Renewable Energy (SRE) has purchased project company Midway Wind LLC for an undisclosed amount. The scheme envisages the installation of 47 G 132 turbines by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) at a site on the Texas Gulf Coast in San Patricio County.

Once up and running, the wind farm is expected to generate electricity for about 48,000 households, Apex says on its website. The planned commercial operation date for the plant is December 2018.

Franklin Park Investments assisted SRE in structuring and completing the acquisition, which was wrapped up at the end of December 2017. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld served as legal counsel in the transaction.

Franklin Park Investments will manage this project for SRE, the latter said. It noted it has added to its portfolio 397 MW of operating capacity and 205 MW of assets in the construction and development stages with the help of Franklin Park Investments.
