August 30 (Renewables Now) - US cloud computing company Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) has signed an 80-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) for EDP Renewables SA's (ELI:EDPR) 205-MW Bright Stalk wind farm in Illinois, the companies said today.

The 15-year virtual PPA is part of EDPR's announcement in early July, when it said it has secured PPAs for 405 MW in the US with three unnamed commercial and industrial (C&I) entities.

The Bright Stalk wind farm, located in McLean County, is expected to be fully operational by the end of next year. EDPR said its location is especially important as it is close to Salesforce data centres and a growing office hub.

For Salesforce, this is the company's largest renewable energy contract so far which supports its objective of powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2022.

EDPR currently operates 797 MW of wind projects in Illinois and is set to boost its operational capacity to over 1.2 GW by the end of next year with the addition of the Bright Stalk and Broadlands wind farms.
