Spain will hit 68% renewable power in 2030, but needs more flexibility - BNEF
Dec 06, 2019 16:16 CESTNovember 26 (Renewables Now) - Spanish firm Saitec Engineering on Monday said it will deploy its first medium-scale offshore wind prototype, called BlueSATH, near Santander, Spain, in the first quarter of 2020.
The 1:6 scaled prototype of a 10-MW wind turbine utilising SATH floating technology will be in the open sea waters for 12 months before being decommissioned. It will feature an Aeolos AE-30kW turbine.
The project's main goals are validation of BlueSATH's response and dynamic behaviour. The project location was chosen because of its meteoceanic conditions that make it suitable for the creation of a real scaled environment.
Saitec will use the obtained results and findings for а real-scale 2-MW model, to be erected on the Basque Marine Energy Platform in 2021.
BlueSATH, through power production from wind at greater depths, is expected to contribute to reaching global sustainability goals, the company said.
