Hitachi Energy, Petrofac to partner on offshore wind integration
Jun 28, 2022 16:51 CESTFebruary 22 (Renewables Now) - German energy group RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has landed a ten-year contract for the operation, service and maintenance of the 630-MW London Array Offshore Wind Farm in British waters off the Kent coast.
The O&M contract was awarded following a tender process and runs from early 2023, RWE said on Monday.
Located 20 km (12.43 mi) off the north Kent coast in the Outer Thames Estuary, London Array supplies enough clean power to meet the annual consumption of about 500,000 British homes and offsets around 900,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The Essen-based energy major is the largest investor in the project with a stake of 30%. The other investors include Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and investment group CDPQ each with a 25% holding, as well as UAE's Masdar with a 20% stake.
RWE already operates eight offshore wind parks in the UK with over 1.3 GW of pro-rata capacity and has a portfolio of a further 6.5 GW of offshore projects under construction or development. The group is the sole owner of the 1.4-GW Sofia offshore wind project and holds a 59% interest in the 857-MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farm which is currently being built off the coast of Lincolnshire.
In addition, RWE was successful in UK’s Offshore Wind Round 4 Leasing auction, winning two new adjacent offshore sites on Dogger Bank with a potential total installed capacity of 3 GW.
