RWE Renewables said yesterday its 125-MW Cassadaga wind farm in Chautauqua County, New York has commenced commercial operation.
The wind farm consists of 27 Nordex and 10 Siemens Gamesa turbines and is expected to generate enough power for over 37,000 households. It is RWE AG’s (ETR:RWE) 29th onshore wind farm in the US and the second in New York after the 34.5-MW Munnsville wind farm in Madison County that went live in 2007.
Silvia Ortin, chief executive wind onshore and PV at RWE Renewables, said that Cassadaga marks the first project completed under the state's Article 10 law, which provides extensive guidance to the New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment about greenlighting major electric generating facilities.
RWE noted that accounting for more than one third of its renewables capacity, the US plays an important role in the group’s strategy to expand its renewables operations and reach net zero by 2040.
