RWE Npower to build offshore wind maintenance base at Mostyn port - report
Oct 5, 2011 - UK energy company RWE Npower Renewables will build a pontoon and a maintenance base at the Port of Mostyn in northern Wales for its Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm and other projects in the region, BBC News reported.
The company has struck with the port a GBP-50-million (USD 77m/EUR 58m) agreement to cover Gwynt y Mor's 25-year life. It will create some 100 jobs in the area, BBC News said. Mostyn will also be the base for RWE's offshore wind power projects at Liverpool Bay, North Hoyle and Rhyl Flats.
Construction of the EUR-2-billion (USD 2.66bn) Gwynt y Mor project kicked off in November 2009. The plant is to come on stream in 2013 and reach full operations near the end of 2014. It is estimated to produce enough electricity to power 400,000 local households.
