US organic food company Amy’s Kitchen will be souring renewable power from Ørsted A/S’ (CPH:ORSTED) 200-MW Sunflower Wind project in Kansas under a power purchase agreement (PPA) supporting its sustainability efforts.
The contract calls for the Danish clean energy major to supply its client with more than 14,000 MWh of electricity, Amy’s Kitchen said on Tuesday. The contracted capacity will be equal to the consumption of close to 2,000 households.

Amy’s Kitchen, one of Walmart’s (NYSE:WMT) suppliers, will be able to meet almost 30% of the power demand required for its operations thanks to the PPA. It noted that the arrangement backs its goal of using 100% renewable power by 2030.
Amy’s Kitchen is participating in a Walmart programme that aims to avoid one gigaton of emissions from the retailer’s global value chain by 2030. The initial cohort’s purchase under the 12-year scheme is for 250,000 MWh of renewable power per year.
The Sunflower Wind park is already under construction in Kansas’ Marion County and is expected to be commissioned by 2023. Last month, Ørsted clinched an off-take deal with US lender Citizens Financial Group Inc (NYSE:CFG) for electricity and renewable energy credits (RECs) from the project.
