Round-up of renewable energy PPA news (April 29 - May 20)

May 20 (Renewables Now) - In the past few weeks power purchase agreement (PPA) announcements came mainly from the US, where utilities are buying more and more renewable power, and from Europe, where power contracts are being struck for subsidy-free projects, repowering schemes and for capacities secured in government tenders. We start with the most receint news.

-- Tilt, Genesis finalise PPA for 130-MW New Zealand wind farm

Tilt Renewables Ltd (NZE:TLT) finalised a PPA with utility Genesis Energy (NZE:GNE) for the output of its 130-MW Waverley Wind Farm in New Zealand. Read more..

-- Enel signs 236.5-MW wind PPA with Missouri's AECI

Enel Green Power (EGP) signed a long-term PPA with utility Associated Electrive Cooperative Inc (AECI) for a 236.5-MW wind project in Missouri. Read more..

German renewable energy firm PNE AG (ETR:PNE3) secured a direct PPA for the output of the Papenrode wind park after the end of its fixed EEG remuneration. Read more..

-- Wpd signs PPA for 72-MW Swedish wind project, orders Vestas turbines

Germany’s Wpd AG secured a PPA and ordered Vestas turbines for the 72-MW Aldermyrberget wind project in northern Sweden.  Read more..

-- Portugal to tender 1.35 GW of solar under new licensing rules

Portugal's Minister of the Environment, Joao Matos Fernandes, said the government will auction 1.35 GW of solar capacity now that the licensing regime has been changed to allow that. Read more..

-- Brazil postpones A-6 energy auction to Oct 17

Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy rescheduled for October 17 the A-6 energy auction, previously planned for September 26. It will award PPAs with a 30-year term for hydropower, a 20-year term for wind and solar, and a 25-year term for biomass, coal and natural gas power sources. Read more..

German renewables developer Energiekontor AG (ETR:EKT) secured a long-term PPA for a subsidy-free solar project in the federal state of Bavaria. Read more..

Engie Espana will supply electricity from renewables to Spanish fitness chain GO Fit under a 10-year contract. Read more..

-- Walmart contracts more solar power, issues ESG report

US retailer Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) is sourcing solar power for its operations in five states through 46 PPAs and lease agreements executed by renewables investor C2 Energy Capital LLC. Read more..

EDF Renewables won a 20-year PPA for a 60-MWp solar project in Greece in the country’s mixed-technology renewable energy tender. Read more..

-- NorthWestern to buy power from 20-MW project in Montana

US utility NorthWestern Energy (NYSE:NWE) agreed to buy the output of a 20-MW solar park to be built near Billings in Montana. The PPA for the Meadowlark Solar project comes as a result of a request for proposals (RfP) for Community Renewable Energy Projects issued by NorthWestern in early 2018. Read more..

US utility American Electric Power Company Inc (NYSE:AEP), is looking to buy solar and wind power from facilities in the PJM power market that will go online no later than 2023. Read more..

-- Dutch repowering project signs 300-MW wind PPA with Vattenfall

Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall AB signed a PPA for over 300 MW from a repowered wind park in the Netherlands, owned by local farmers, residents and entrepreneurs. Read more..
