UK-based RES Group has received a deal to deliver asset management services for the 50-MW Afton wind farm in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
The order was placed by Edinburgh-based Red Rock Power Ltd, which is owned by China’s SDIC Power, RES said earlier this week without giving the value of the contract. In addition to site management, the UK firm will also provide custom grid services for the plant and manage the output in real time in partnership with National Grid.
The Afton wind park consists of 25 Siemens Gamesa turbines of 2 MW each, the output of which is being sold under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with a unit of UK-based Centrica Group. The project has been accredited under the UK’s Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme. Red Rock Power became its owner in October 2018 after buying it from InfraRed Capital.
With the latest award, RES has lifted the total capacity of its asset management in the UK and Ireland to 1.3 GW. Globally, its portfolio exceeds 6 GW and is expected to grow in the next few months, the company said.
A week earlier, RES won 10-year extensions to five UK asset management contracts with Aviva Investors for wind farms totalling 85.5 MW. The bundle includes power plants in Essex, Cambridgeshire, Devon, Dumfries and Galloway and Norfolk. Under the new contracts, RES will oversee the environmental, social and governance activity for the sites.
