RES files application for 126-MW Scottish wind farm

UK-based renewables developer RES on Thursday said it has submitted a planning application for a wind farm of up to 126 MW to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit.

The proposed Bloch wind farm is located next to the existing Solwaybank wind farm at Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway in southern Scotland.

After technical and environmental surveys and public consultations in June and October this year, some changes have been made to the project, including reducing the number of turbines from 22 to 21 and reducing the tip height of 11 turbines to limit visibility. The project was previously called Solwaybank Extension.

The developer has also worked with local people to explore community benefits to be delivered by the wind farm.

“The feedback received to date demonstrates that discounting the annual electricity bills of residents living closest to Bloch Wind Farm, improved broadband provision and an educational scheme are the preferred opportunities,” said James Cameron, development project manager at RES.

RES has so far developed or built 21 wind farms totalling 597 MW in Scotland.
