May 22 (Renewables Now) - UK project developer Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) has acquired operation and maintenance contracts (O&M) for six wind farms in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, thus adding more capacity to its 5-GW support services portfolio.

The contracts were previously in the hands of Ainscough Wind Energy Services (AWES), the wind energy division of the Ainscough Group, RES said last week. It did not provide details on the wind farms.

The move falls within the developer’s strategy to grow its O&M business. Several weeks ago, RES expanded support services portfolio by purchasing the asset management business of compatriot and peer REG Power Management (RPM).

The asset management division held contracts to manage 43 operational wind and solar farms owned by BlackRock Inc (NYSE:BLK), John Laing Environmental Assets Group (JLEN) and Equitix.
