Report sees India to attract USD 169bn clean energy investments in next decade

(ADPnews) - Dec 13, 2010 - India is seen to attract USD 169 billion (EUR 127bn) investments in renewable energy in the next ten years, according to a report by the US Pew Charitable Trusts released last week.

The report, entitled "Global clean power: a USD-2.3-trillion opportunity", examines private investment in clean energy through 2020. The main data for the study have been compiled by Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

According to the report, India is set to take the third place within the G-20 major economies in terms of renewable power investments globally in ten years. Currently, the country occupies the tenth place.

The report predicts that India's improved clean energy policy could lead to a 48% rise in private investments by 2020. India, China, Japan and South Korea are seen to account for 40% of the green power project investments worldwide in the next decade.

India is expected to boost its renewable power capacity five times to 91 GW over the studied period.
