Renewables union Fesa opposes changes of German renewable energy law

(ADPnews) - Jun 22, 2011 - German renewable energy union Fesa criticised the revised Renewable Energy Act (EEG) that the government is preparing, saying it serves the interests of big energy companies and prevents the decentralisation of energy production.

According to the union, the new law does not provide for the involvement of medium-sized companies, regional utilities, municipalities and citizens in the decentralisation. Distributed energy generation is crucial to the fast and effective transition to renewable energy, so blocking it can do harm to the economy, Fesa warned.

Fesa appealed to Germans to contact their representatives in parliament and object to the planned revisions of the law.

Several weeks ago, the European Association for Renewable Energy, Eurosolar, also denounced the EEG amendment, saying it is designed to benefit large energy firms and leaves smaller companies, regional utilities and citizens out of the energy concept.
