The government of Queensland, Australia, has given the thumbs-up to a 64-MW wind farm project, planned to be completed by next year.
The so-called Mannuem wind park was proposed by Australian Energy Wind Farm and will be located in the South Burnett Regional Council area, the government announced on Sunday. Its construction is planned to begin as early as March next year.
Estimated at AUD 128 million (USD 86.1m/EUR 78.4m), the project calls for the installation of 16 turbines with a capacity of between 4 MW and 4.5 MW, which will generate enough electricity to supply around 35,000 homes per year. The output of the facility will help save around 150,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
According to the press statement, the project is expected to create 100 new jobs, while five ongoing jobs will be created once the wind park is operational. It will support the state in reaching its goal for a 50% renewables share by 2030, the government noted.
Australian Energy Wind Farm says on its website it has participated in 85 renewable energy projects of 5,600 MW in total since 2004.
