Australian firm Quantum Power Ltd has been contracted to develop and install a 1-MW biogas system for an unnamed pork producer in the state of Western Australia, its parent said.
Australian geothermal power firm Geodynamics Ltd (ASX:GDY) said on Monday its recently-acquired unit will work on the project under the build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) model. The customer will get the renewable electricity generated by the plant under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
The station, located near the city of Perth, will yield biogas with 60% methane in it by converting manure from the pig housing facility at the site. The biogas will then be refined and used to fuel another renewable power generator in proximity. Its output, equal to the power demand of roughly 600 local households, will meet 100% of the client’s consumption, Quantum Power business development manager, Kunal Kumar, said.
Construction of the anaerobic digestion facility and power plant is scheduled to kick off in early 2016, after obtaining all relevant approvals, and conclude within six to nine months. This deal represents Quantum Power’s 12th biogas project, six of which are in the domestic pork industry.
