US floating wind foundation specialist Principle Power Inc has become part of the Senvion-led consortium that will be developing a next generation 10-MW-plus offshore wind turbine under a EU-funded programme.
Principle Power announced its involvement in the so-called ReaLCoE project on Thursday, saying that it will be designing a WindFloat floating foundation capable of hosting the new turbine.
The project, benefitting from EUR 25 million (USD 29.9m) in European Commission financing, has been initiated on May 1, 2018 and will run for a period of three and a half years. The consortium behind the project is led by German wind turbine manufacturer Senvion SA (ETR:SEN). The group will seek to develop, install, demonstrate, operate and test a technology platform for the first prototype of this new turbine in a realistic offshore environment. A pre-series array is expected to be installed by 2021.
The following table includes the names of the 14 participants in the consortium other than Senvion.
