Portugal's State Energy secretary, Jorge Seguro Sanches, approved on Tuesday the lincensing of two residual forest biomass projects with a combined capacity of 30 MW.
Located in the regions of Fundao and Viseu, the projects represent a total investment of EUR 100 million (USD 110.9m). These biomass plants, 15 MW each, were secured in public tenders held in 2006, the government said in the press release.
The companies responsible for the projects are Central de Biomassa de Viseu Lda and Central de Biomassa do Fundao Lda.
The projects fit well in the country's goal for renewable energy, climate policies, job stimulation and regional development and contribute to the prevention of forest fires and the promotion of forestry as well.
