Portugal's Energy State Secretary, Jorge Seguro Sanches, approved two wind farms from EDP Renovaveis SA's (ELI:EDPR) with a combined capacity of 48 MW.
Located in Batalha, 20 MW, and Tarouca, 28 MW, the schemes represent an investment of around EUR 50 million (USD 58.1m) and support the government's efforts to reduce the tariff deficit and electricity prices as well as increase the competitiveness of the economy.
In addition to this project, the secretary has also approved recently 14 photovoltaic (PV) power plants, with an installed capacity of 521 MW. These represent a potential investment of EUR 381 million.
Currently, more than 2 GW of wind, solar and biomass projects are in the licensing process.
