Dec 14, 2011 - Dutch port operator Havenbedrijf Rotterdam NV has received some 30 applications by companies that want to build and run wind turbines in the newly-developing zone of the port, spokesperson Tie Schellekens said on Tuesday.
The spokesman added the port operator is very positively surprised that so many companies have indicated interest in the area where a wind park with a total capacity of some 100 MW is planned to be built.
The Dutch port operator has reported recently a good progress in building the expansion of the port, called Maasvlakte 2, whose first phase is expected to be delivered in 2013. Havenbedrijf Rotterdam plans the construction of wind turbines on the seawall of the new piece of land, which is considered very suitable for wind energy production.
Schellekens declined to say names of the companies interested in building wind turbines because of the confidentiality of the talks. However, one of the interested parties is already known as the Dutch association of wind turbine owners, De Windvogel, informed on its website that it is in the race to participate in the project.
