(SeeNews) - Nov 24, 2011 - Polish engineering group Rafako (WAR:RFK) will partner on a biomass project in southern Poland with local utility Spolka Energetyczna Jastrzebie (SEJ), Rafako's CEO Wieslaw Rozacki told industry news portal Wnp.pl.
Rafako's combined heat and power (CHP) project in the city of Raciborz is estimated at over PLN-100-million (USD 29.7m/EUR 22.2m). It will supply heating to the company and partly to the city. Rafako will operate the plant in collaboration with the future district heating network of SEJ, which is a unit of coal miner Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (WAR:JSW), Rozacki said. In September, SEI agreed with the State Treasury to acquire 85% of the owner of the heating network in Raciborz. The deal needs regulatory approval, according to the website. SEJ could acquire the plant in future, Rozacki added.
The plant has an initial thermal capacity of up to 20 MW and electricity generating capacity of between 3 MW and 5 MW. Rafako has already applied for a building permit and is awaiting an environmental impact assessment. The construction of the plant, which will probably not start this year, will take two to three years, Rozacki said.
