(ADPnews) - Nov 18, 2010 - The Polish Ministry of Economy has confirmed plans to construct an offshore wind farm in 2020, Polish energy portal Cire.pl reported on Monday.
The possibility to install wind turbines at sea in 2020 was included in the amended project for a National Action Plan for clean energy sources, the Ministry of Economy told Cire, adding that the structure of renewable energy sources has not been notably changed.
The new National Action Plan has taken notice of the appeals made by the Polish Wind Energy Society to take into account offshore turbines.
The amended project envisages the installation of an offshore wind farm with a capacity of 500 MW, according to Cire. Thus in 2020 wind energy would make up 48% of all renewable energy in Poland, while in the previous plan the share was 44%.
PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna (WAR:PGE) plans to build such a wind farm and has already chosen three locations for the investment, the portal wrote, adding that other Polish companies are also interested in such an investment.
The project was approved on October 15 by the Committee for European Affairs of the Polish Council of Ministers. It is subject to review by the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers on November 18. Afterwards it will be revised by the Polish Council of Ministers and then submitted to the European Commission.
