October 30 (Renewables Now) - US ethanol producer Poet LLC said Friday it is moving forward with full construction of a new plant in Indiana after earlier this month President Donald Trump directed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to lift the ban on summer sales of E15.
The almost USD-160-million (EUR 141m) biofuel facility received final permit approval last week. It will be located in Shelbyville and will have an annual production capacity of 80 million gallons (302.8 million litres). Completion is scheduled for the spring of 2020.
"Farmers desperately need the income boost from this new market for grain, and Pres. Trump’s recent announcement of year-round E15 sales has the biofuels industry poised for new growth and prosperity," said chief executive Jeff Broin. According to the company, full implementation of E15 nationwide would create 7 billion gallons of additional biofuels demand.
The new facility will be Poet's 28th starch biofuel plant and its fifth in Indiana.
