Philippines Energy Development Corp temporarily closes 49 MW geothermal plant

(ADPnews) - Nov 22, 2010 - Philippines Energy Development Corp (EDC) said today it has shut down its 49 MW geothermal power plant to carry out additional technical studies aimed at boosting its capacity.

The studies would last nine months and need an investment of PHP 6 million (USD 137m/EUR 99m), EDC senior vice president for technical services Manuel Ogena said.

Ogena added that US and New Zealand consultants have affirmed the decision to close the plant, starting on Sunday midnight, to study the geothermal resource as the facility has been working on less than one fifth of its installed capacity.
