September 16 (Renewables Now) - Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE:PGE) today said it has commenced the environmental survey stage of its Baltica 1 offshore wind project.
The project, located about 80 km (50 miles) from the Baltic coast, will have a capacity of about 900 MW and is expected to go online after 2030. PGE is developing the Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 wind projects, totalling about 2.5 GW and scheduled for a start-up in 2026/2027, with Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED).
After starting a two-year wind measurement campaign for Baltica 1 in May, the company has now tasked a consortium of the Gdynia Maritime University and MEWO SA with conducting the environmental surveys. The consortium will also prepare an environmental report and will be responsible for securing an environmental permit. The next steps will include obtaining a building permit. Baltica 1 already has a location permit and a connection agreement.
