Oil and gas industry services provider Petrofac Ltd (LON:PFC) has won a contract from Dutch transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT Holding BV for two 700-MW offshore wind substations in the North Sea.
After a European tender procedure, Petrofac has been selected to construct the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Alpha platform and as the preferred contractor for the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Beta platform.
TenneT is developing 3,500 MW of offshore wind connections in the Netherlands by 2023, using standardised concept of 700 MW per connection. Petrofac will perform the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the substations for the third and fourth connections. The company said today that the total contract value is about USD 200 million (EUR 171m).
The Hollandse Kust (zuid) Alpha platform is due to become operational in 2021. The Beta platform, which is still subject to the tendering of the wind farm concession by the Dutch government, is slated for completion in 2022.
TenneT said that a call for tenders has been issued for the supply and installation of onshore and subsea cables for the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Alpha and Beta wind farm zones, with the contracts are expected to be awarded in the summer. The tender procedure for the subsea cables and platforms for the Hollandse Kust (noord) project will be launched towards the end of this year.
The Dutch government's new Roadmap for Offshore Wind Energy calls for the installation of another 7,000 MW of offshore wind capacity in the 2024-2030 period.
